Horsemarling roundabout: Temporary four-way traffic signals will be in operation between 21st-23rd May during off-peak hours (9.30am-3.30pm).
Overnight road closures: A full road closure will be in place on the B4008 Gloucester Road for 3 nights between 28th May and 31th May (ends 6am on 31st May), from 8:00pm to 6:00am, to carry out road marking and culvert lining works. A signed diversion route will be in place, and we please ask that you follow all diversionary signage.
Location of road closure is highlighted in red:
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.
Construction Progress – first 6 weeks
The construction is now well underway, with steady progress being made.
The splitter island is coned off which will remain in place to safely facilitate construction. As the works progress, the layout of the cones will change to the verge and the carriageway.
Drivers should take extra care when approaching and passing through this area.
Material and equipment deliveries may cause short delays – thank you for your patience.

Multi-User Path Progress
Upcoming works – next six weeks
Over the next 6 weeks, we will be focusing on:
Montel Civil Engineering has been appointed by Gloucestershire County Council as the main contractor to complete Phase 1 of the Standish Multi User Path. This phase, starting from Horsemarling Roundabout, will involve the construction of a 400 metre section of path suitable for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders and will tie into future sections of the Gloucestershire Cycle Spine. It will include:
Key works will include:
When will the project commence and when is the expected completion?
Work is scheduled to start on Monday 6th January 2025 with completion expected by end of Spring 2025.
What road widths are proposed?
Most of the existing kerb lines along the B4008 will remain unchanged, except for the northbound exit lane width at the Horsemarling Roundabout, which will be reduced to 3.5 metres to make space for the new multiuser path.
What are the working hours, and will there be night works?
Works will be undertaken between 07:30am and 18:00pm Monday to Friday. Night works may be required near the end of the project for surfacing works and some weekend working may be required depending on the requirement of the job.
How will you avoid creating excessive noise/pollution/dust and mud during construction?
Regular noise monitoring will be undertaken, and our modern plant fleet is fitted with effective exhaust silencers to minimise noise emissions. During any overnight works, it is anticipated that ‘noisy’ work will be undertaken at the start of the shift to minimise any potential disruption, with acoustic barriers being used if necessary.
To reduce the production of dust we will eliminate cutting in the first place. However, there will be activities where production of dust is unavoidable. These operations will be strictly controlled and the necessary and appropriate water suppression measures put in place prior to commencements. Road sweepers will also be used when required to suppress dust and mud and to ensure the cleanliness of the existing carriageway is maintained.
Will there be any traffic management put in place and how will this affect my journey?
In order to provide a safe environment for both members of the public and our workforce, there will be traffic management implemented, including narrow lane running, lane closures and three-way temporary traffic signals. All measures have been agreed with Gloucestershire County Council Highway’s team prior to implementation – and it will be inspected daily by our specialist traffic management contractor.
Overnight road closures may be required towards the end of the project to undertake surfacing works. Further information will be provided on this in due course.
Who do we talk to if we have concerns or questions?
Montel has a dedicated Community Liaison Officer, Suzanne Wright, who will provide regular updates either through social media channels or regular newsletters.
