Montel Civil Engineering has been engaged by Mendip District Council as Principal Contractor for the remedial works to the current drainage systems in Rode and Beckington. Flooding to properties and roads have been a long-standing issue in these villages and the aim of the improvement works is to reduce and help manage local flooding. This will be achieved by upgrading the culverted water course and surface water drainage.
When will the work start and when is completion expected?
Montel will commence work in Rode on Monday 7th November and completion is due December 2022. Works will then commence in Beckington in early 2023.
What are the working hours, and will there be night works?
Works will be undertaken between 08:00am to 16:30pm Monday to Friday. There are currently no night works expected but some Saturday working may be required depending on the requirement of the job.
Will there be a lot of noise, dust and mud and how will this be avoided?
Whilst our modern fleet of plant is fitted with effective exhaust silencers, it will be operated in such a manner as to minimise noise and carbon emissions. Regular noise monitoring will be undertaken throughout the day and acoustic barriers will also be used where necessary. There will be some activities where dust is unavoidable, and these operations will be strictly controlled and appropriate water-suppression measures put in place prior to commencement. The site team will also ensure the cleanliness of the works locations.
Will there be any traffic management put in place and how will this affect my journey?
Traffic management will be required to ensure the safety of our site team and the general public.
Who do we talk to if we have concerns or questions?
At Montel we have a dedicated Community Relations team to assist local residents with any queries and concerns on all projects we undertake. For this project the point of contact will be Suzanne Wright, who can be contacted at Suzanne.Wright@montel-group.com. In addition to writing directly to local residents and business to keep them informed on the progress of the works, a dedicated project webpage and our Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook pages will also offer regular updates of the project, including, progress reports, images and information on possible disruption to roads.
