Having successfully completed four previous phases on this commercial and residential scheme in Stonehouse, to the east of Stroud, Montel Civil Engineering have been awarded the penultimate section of primary infrastructure for this prestigious development. This project will provide an inter-connecting carriageway between two previously completed sections of road and will provide a fully serviced access to future housing development parcels. Works on this project consist of;
Works on site commenced late June 2022 and are anticipated to be completed early 2023.

Muck shifting works are ongoing on the project and good progress is being made while the sun is shining, while the void for the attenuation pond is currently being dug and a road box has been formed. The sports pitches are having their final trim prior to topsoil being put in place. We should see some significant movement to the overall landscape over the next 2 weeks as stockpiles of topsoil start to be placed as the bulk earthworks start to slow and drainage works commence.

Montel have been able to make good progress over the last couple of weeks with the earthworks to the new sports pitches, and we’re nearing completion of the preparatory works for these. We will still have the sub-surface drainage to carry out, followed by the final topsoiling, but the weather-dependant operations to carry out the cut & fill are nearly done. We have started stripping the vegetation and topsoil along the alignment of the new carriageway and will be starting on the drainage in the near future.
Letters to residents will be available here when they are published. Please check this page again soon.
Why are the works needed?
This area of land within the Stonehouse development has been granted permission for residential development, and as such the subsequent housing units will require both a carriageway access and all necessary provisions – such as drainage, communications cables, electricity, gas and water supplies. Montel have been awarded this scheme in order to provide these facilities. The developer is required to provide the sports pitches as an obligation within the permission for the overall development – and these will provide a recreational facility for the local community.
How long will the work take?
The project began in June 2022 and is expected to be completed January 2023.
Will there be a lot more traffic?
Unfortunately, but through necessity, we will need to have a significant number of deliveries made to site in order to provide the materials required to construct the works. It is our intention to use the most local suppliers we can in order to achieve this, but it will mean numerous additional vehicles will have to access and egress our site.
How will the traffic be controlled?
Deliveries will only be made via the agreed access routes – primarily from the west along Grove Lane and Great Oldbury Drive. We intend to restrict deliveries to periods outside of the school drop-off and collection periods, but there may (through necessity) be exceptions to this. Montel will be keeping these routes clean and clear of detritus, but should you have any comments about this, please contact us via the email address supplied.
What days will Montel be working?
Generally, Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6pm, and Saturdays between 07.30 and 13.00 – although there may be occasions where we need to work beyond this in order to complete specific activities. No works will be undertaken on Bank Holidays or Sundays.
Will there be a lot of mud, noise and dust?
Dust and noise is levels are monitored throughout the day. Our machinery has the latest technology in noise suppression, and the type of works required should produce minimal dust. We will be carrying out regular cleaning of the roads to ensure that these are kept as clean as possible at all stages of the infrastructure construction.
