December 2022
Our Project Manager and our team have been busy getting the car park completed, all areas of the perimeter of the car park, the first 10 meters of each aisle and some full aisles have now been excavated and had a robust SUDs system installed to reduce the possibility of future flooding, once this was installed new block paving was re-instated. The entrance to the car park has also been improved. All waste excavated from the project has been sent away for crushing and re-use, ensuring no unnecessary waste has been sent to landfill. All major works are now completed, and our site cabins have been removed from the car park.
We appreciate the patience of the retail units onsite and their customers, and wish them all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
October 2022
Our Project Manager Nick Fiore and the team have now completed the areas of the car park in front of B&Q and Sports Direct, resulting in approximately 70% of the project area of the car park being back in use to the public. Works have begun on the third aisle of the of the car park and on the areas in front of M&S, Carpetright and Aldi, works in this area have so far involved excavation of the paving blocks and ground below, access to all retail units has been maintained via safe walkways.
At Montel Civil Engineering we have a focus of recycling and re-use, and to date 100% of all material excavated on this project has been sent off for crushing and re-use, ensuring no unnecessary waste goes to land field. Works in front of Card Factory are still ongoing are anticipated to be completed at the end of October, while works on the Burger King Drive-Thru are also continuing. One of the last activities to be undertaken on the project will the widening of the entrance to the retail park, these works will be undertaken at night and are anticipated to take two weeks, these works will not impact access to the retail park during working hours.
Throughout this project we have tried to support local businesses, not just to give back to the community, but to also ensure our carbon emissions are reduced as much as possible. On this project we have worked closely with Plantforce and Towens, both companies are based within two miles of this project, and both have supported us for the duration of this project.
September 2022
Our Project Manager Nick Fiore and the team have now completed the entrance aisle of the car park, and this area along with all areas in front of our compound, Burger King and the second aisle of the car park are now completed and back in use by the public. We have now begun works on the other side of the of the car park in front of part of B&Q and Sports Direct, this area will be undertaken in stages and handed back to the public as each section is completed to reduce the impact on the retail units and their customers. We endeavour to have this area completed by the end of September.
An issue with the power supply at Burger King has resulted in some delays to the works within this area of the car park, we have isolated that area to a minimum enabling us to complete a large section of this area get it back in use by the public. This delay does not impact the scheduled works within the rest of the carpark, and the project remains on schedule to complete at the end of November.
All areas completed to date have been excavated and stabilised with installation of a SUDs system to ensure the risk of future flooding has been minimised.
August 2022
Our Project Manager Nick Fiore and the team have now completed the first full aisle of the car park, and this area is now back in use by the public, along with the completed areas in front of B&Q and the Montel compound. The original left-hand turn into the car park continues to undergo works, this has undergone bituminous surfacing in preparation for our team to lay paving blocks in this area, it is anticipated the area will be fully operational and available to the public by mid-August.
This area of the orbital around the car park will operate as a one-way system once re-opened. Works are still ongoing for the Drive-Thru for Burger King, an issue with the power supply has resulted in some delays to the works being undertaken on the Drive-Thru. This delay will not impact the scheduled works within the rest of the carpark, this area will be isolated and works will continue around them, ensuring the project remains on schedule.
Works on the area of the orbital of the carpark adjacent to the Drive-Thru continues as our team prepare the area for the eventual laying of the paving blocks. Overall, all areas worked on to date have been excavated and stabilised with installation of a SUDs system to ensure the risk of future flooding has been minimised.
July 2022
Our Project Manager Nick Fiore and the team have now completed the areas of the car park in front of B&Q and the Montel compound. These areas are now back in use by the public, while the entrance to the carpark has been widened and all traffic is currently being directed to the right upon entry to the carpark.
Works are still ongoing for the Drive-Thru for Burger King, and on the section of the circular route of the carpark in front of it. Our fencing has now been moved forward to incorporate the entrances of three of the aisles leading into the parking areas which has enabled us to begin working in these areas safely. The original left turn into the car park is no longer available to the public as works have begun on this area and the aisle next to it.
Activities in this area have included removal of the old paving blocks, excavation and stabilisation of the ground and the laying of stone in preparation for bituminous surfacing to be laid next Wednesday and Thursday. Once this solid base has been constructed, our team will begin laying the new modular paving.
May 2022
Our Project Manager Nick Fiore and his team have excavated and reinstated the area in front of B&Q and this has been re-opened to the public, block paving is currently being reinstated within our compound area and will re-opened to the public by the 20th of May. The entrance to the retail park has been widened, enabling two cars to manoeuvre through the area, reducing the need to stop while entering the retail park.
We have began excavating the area near Burger King which will become part of the main circular route around the car park.
“Business as Usual” banners have been put up around the car park to ensure the public are aware businesses remain open for the duration of the works.

Information
Montel Civil Engineering has been engaged by Flowerdown Retail Park to undertake the much needed repairs to the car park. The car park repairs will be undertaken in phases to minimise the impact to businesses within the retail park, and their customers.
The work will comprise of:
- Excavation of the perimeter of the circular route of the car park and the first 10 meters of each aisle.
- Re-instating a robust SUDs system to reduce the possibility of future flooding.
- Re-instating the block paving.
- Widening of the car park entrance.

FAQ
Why are the works needed?
To construct a drive-thru lane for Burger King to reduce the impact on the traffic turning into the car park via the one-way system. Works are also being undertaken on the parameter of the car park and within the first 10m of each aisle to ensure the ground is level, and to reduce the car park holding water which currently creates large puddles around the perimeter of the car park.
What works will Montel be undertaking?
Our works will comprise of:
· Excavation of the perimeter of the circular route of the car park and the first 10 meters of each aisle.
· Re-instating a robust SUDs system to reduce the possibility of future flooding.
· Re-instating the block paving.
· Widening the car park entrance.
How long will the work take?
The project began in early April and is expected to be completed by the Autumn.
How will the traffic be controlled?
The car park will run on a one-way system for safety and to minimise disruption.
What days will Montel be working?
Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6pm, no works will be undertaken on bank holidays.
Will there be a lot of noise and dust?
Dust and noise is levels are monitored throughout the day. Our machinery has the latest technology in noise suppression, and the type of works required should produce minimum dust.
What about deliveries?
We receive our deliveries in bulk to aim to reduce our carbon emissions and traffic on the road, these will be delivered locally off site and brought into the car park in smaller loads as required.
How will customers know we are open?
“Business as Usual” banners will be used to inform the local community that businesses within the retail park are open, and access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project.
