This Design & Build Contract was for the construction of a New Car Park at the Site of the Former Medical Centre and Library between Load Street car park and Dog Lane in Bewdley Town Centre. The additional parking area created new spaces and incorporated a new attractive feature with seating and planting to enhance the visual appearance of the car park, which is set within a conservation area.
Montel has a great relationship with the client and collaboration was key to ensure the construction processes and lines of command were firmly in place to allow the team to work closer and speed up the decision making on this fast paced town centre project.
In collaboration with Wyre District Council, we held a pre-construction meeting for local residents, businesses and road-users to attend. Our Public Liaison Officer and project management team engaged with stakeholder’s concerns, provided an honest assessment of the construction timescales, and promoted the benefits of the project to the local community. We were able to gather key information (such as business opening hours and access/egress requirements) and arranged follow-up visits to residences and business premises.
The project was undertaken during normal daily operation of the existing car park with hundreds of vehicle movements a day. The logistics of planning and managing internal traffic management systems to cope with pedestrian and vehicular activities on the site represented a considerable challenge. We took particular care and vigilance in planning and safeguarding the works to minimise the risk to the visitors of Bewdley – an objective which was successfully achieved and acknowledged by the client.
