Integrated Delivery Team

The scheme included the construction of a new widened watercourse and associated details along with an Eco-Crib wall to retain up to four metre vertical height of adjacent topographical features. Discussion and consultation with Sandwell MBC and The Environment Agency assisted in developing a workable plan that enabled the existing watercourse to be temporarily culverted whilst the new Eco-Crib wall & widened channel could be constructed without daily flooding. Temporary clay tanks to form emergency overtopping weirs were used to mitigate potential flooding events. An ecological watching brief was maintained throughout the works along with a maintenance regime for anti-siltation measures.

Adopting a Collaborative Strategy

The works were made more challenging due to the only access to the works being through the live golf club, and the sensitive nature of its members’ needs. We liaised closely with representatives of both the golf club and local authority to ensure that there was minimum disruption to the users of the golf club.

Encouraging Innovation and Learning

With minimal disruption to the golf course being high on the agenda it was necessary to construct a 5m high crib-lock wall to support the 18th Tee thus enabling the former water course to be diverted behind the new bund. The wall was constructed using re-cycled plastics injection formed into crib-lock components thus providing for a reduced carbon installation.
